Your son or daughter is currently taking a Physical Education class at Bonny Eagle High School. We believe that physical education is a combined responsibility of school, community, and home and our mission is to inspire our youth to find ways to live a physically active and healthy lifestyle. Our lessons and units focus on the Maine Learning Results and Physical Education Standards. Students will be required to complete assessments through out the course.
We offer 5 Physical Education classes:
Foundations of Wellness- This course is an introduction to the electives we offer and is now a prerequisite to take any further PE credits. We will cover Nutrition and goal setting in this course as well as introduce the other four electives. The idea is to better prepare our students to make educated decisions about their future Physical Education classes here at Bonny Eagle.
Lifetime and Recreational Activities- This course offers students the opportunity to participate in a variety of sports they can enjoy individually or as a group. Students will develop team building, problem solving, and leadership skills. This course will stress the importance of being physically active, and focus on the many ways it can improve their overall health throughout their life. Examples of activities include: tennis, pickle ball, badminton, volleyball, ping-pong, frisbee golf, bowling, golf, bocce, and lawn games.
Fitness Planning and Group Exercise- This course offers students the opportunity to participate in a variety of sports they can enjoy individually or as a group. Students will develop team building, problem solving, and leadership skills. This course will stress the importance of being physically active, and focus on the many ways it can improve their overall health throughout their life. Examples of activities include: yoga, pilates, step aerobics, zumba, plyometrics, keno, and strength training.
Team and Territorial Activities- This course offers students the opportunity to participate in a variety of sports stressing fitness, personal and social interaction, and knowledge of each activity. Examples of activities include: softball, wiffleball, football, soccer, handball, basketball, capture games, flag football, and ultimate frisbee.
Outdoor Leadership Activities- This course offers students the opportunity to participate in a variety of sports they can enjoy individually or as a group. Students will develop team building skills, learn about a variety of ways to enjoy the outdoors, and choose appropriate levels of challenge. Examples of activities include: Orienteering/Geocaching, Rock Climbing, Team Building Activities, Snowshoeing, Hiking, Low Ropes Courses, Problem Solving Activities, and Cross Country Skiing.
